Discover the Rich History of the Old Roe Valley Hospital

Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI)

The Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI) is a registered charity dedicated to serving the local community. Established in 1987, the initiative was born out of a need to address high unemployment rates within the area, with its initial focus on creating job opportunities and providing valuable work experience.

In 2011, LCDI became the custodian of the Old Roe Valley Hospital, a site that once served as the local union Workhouse. The hospital’s rich history is now a cornerstone of the Workhouse Museum, which explores the various facets of this historic building and its evolution into a Workhouse, Cottage Hospital, and, ultimately, a vibrant community space. Today, the facility supports businesses and community groups while working under the auspices of the Western Trust, ensuring that this beautiful building remains a vital part of the Limavady community.

By intertwining historical significance with modern community needs, LCDI continues to play a pivotal role in enriching the lives of Limavady residents.
